Inspirations
My mom was an inspiration early on, she was a graphic designer when I was growing up and was into every craft imaginable. She always had paint and other materials around for me to use and experiment with and would instruct me in using them, including teaching me how to sew. In High School, I enrolled in Mr. Allred's class and really enjoyed it, however the idea that I could actually do something with it didn't come until the end of the class when I received a letter from him, telling me that he thought I had potential and that I was invited to continue on to Art II. After High School, I knew I wanted to do something involving Art, but wasn't sure what exactly. I took several classes at Shasta College, where I eventually met a teacher named Marko Marian. He is the person who inspired me to become a teacher. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about his profession, which rubbed off on me and gave me the motivation I needed to move on and the desire to share my passion with others.
A recent, specific inspiration and the source for many of my recent titles comes from the novel by Daniel Quinn, called Ishmael. In my opinion it is the best novel, ever written, and continues to give me inspiration every time I open it.
I have many favorite artists but some of my favorites are Chuck Close, and Jenny Saville.
The amazing hyper realism of Chuck Close's early work is mind blowing to me, while the loose, expressionism and use of color in Saville's work makes me itch for a paintbrush. I am constantly swinging back and forth between which style I idolize more.
